In recent weeks the ocean has warmed up. It’s still a little chilly – water temperature has reached 19 degrees off the Kiama coast, and 18 degrees off the Ulladulla coast.
The red and yellow flags have been flying on patrolled beaches.
Surf Life Saving NSW has urged people to only swim on patrolled beaches, between the flags.
Due to recent rainfall, pollution may be running into the ocean at some local beaches.
Beachwatch has issued a pollution warning for Werri Beach and Surf Beach, Kiama, advising pollution is possible, and to take care.
There are no pollution warnings for Shoalhaven beaches – the Office of Environment and Heritage does not monitor the area, or publish results on its Beachwatch site.
Local surfers and bodyboarders have been thrilled with the swell which hit on the weekend.
They are likely to be enticed by four to eight foot swells, and are best to seek out surf breaks protected from moderate south-south-easterly winds on Thursday.
Wind speeds are tipped to reach 16km/hour at Dolphin Point and Mollymook, 11km/hour at Aussie Pipe, 24km/hour at Seven Mile Beach and Bombo.
Magic Seaweed has forecast a slight drop in swell to four to six foot on Friday and Saturday.
